Description

(Physalis pruinosa)

Aunt Molly’s Ground Cherry has unusually fine flavor—very sweet with a nice hint of tartness. 1/2”-3/4” fruits are enclosed in a papery husk, drop to the ground when fully ripe.

High pectin content makes this one choice for pies and preserves.

Gurney’s Seeds says that this ground cherry is popular in Pennsylvania, and it’s been known there since at least the 1880s

Introduced by Territorial Seeds,  named after the ice cream parlor once owned by Territorial’s founders, Aunt Molly’s Ice Cream Treats.
